AUTUMN - clay courseEvery Tuesday for 4 weeks starting
Clay is something we all use every day and is truly exciting to work with. Join us for a beginners introduction to hand building with clay to make a range of pottery, you'll be delighted with.
Week 1 - Introduction to glass cutting. You will be taken through the different types of glass we use and shown techniques for cutting glass and layering. at the end of the class you will have created two bright and colourful glass coasters. Week 2 - Fun With Frit You will learn two different techniques using powdered glass known as frit, learning to stencil and using frit slurry to create marbled effects. At the end of the class you will have produced two coasters, plus a couple of small test pieces. Week 3 - Using metal embellishments Learn the technique for using brass and copper inclusions, creating shapes to add another level of interest to your fused glass. At the end of the class you will have created two coasters one with embellishments only and one with coloured glass, frit and metal embellishments. Week 4 - Introduction to enamels You will be learn how to use glass enamels. This technique will bring various types of enamel together to create a layered project. During the class you will create a trio of pieces using artisan bubble powders as a base and layering with NT colours and accents. Your pieces will then be framed as a glass picture. Week 5 - Embellishments with Flame You will learn to manipulate glass rods using a flame to make a range of embellishments from stringers to create more organic shapes for your fused glass artwork. Two coaster size pieces. Week 6 - Slumping and Final pieces You will be able to choose your favourite technique to create a final piece of your choosing, be it a coaster or wall hanger. You will also create 2 glass coasters or 1 larger piece, which we will then slump for you, creating a wave piece for your final week project. The Cost for the 6 week course is £230, all materials will be provided as well as tea's and coffee's or cold drinks during the workshop. At anytime if you wish to create extra items using the same techniques then extra glass can be purchased payable on the evening. Single workshops are available: If you are unable to commit to the full 6 weeks you can attend one week. However, students must know how to cut glass before attending one of the other weeks (So either attend the first week and then week of your choice or you have attended a previous glass evening).
