Fair Isle Techniques
For people who can already knit, come and learn how to do stranded knitting. The Fair Isle method of working two colours within a knitted row. You will create a small knitted sample from classic Fair Isle charts.
​Please bring at least two contrasting yarns in a yarn weight of your choice and 3 double pointed knitting needles of the same gauge appropriate to your yarn weight.

Helen Houston is a textile designer who has worked in the industry for over 25 years. She has worked with many fabric manufacturers around the world. Helen learned to knit before she could read or write; learning the knitting traditions of Shetland which have been passed down through the generations of her family. She is also accomplished at sewing and is currently helping stitch a Welcome Panel for The Great Tapestry of Scotland in freehand crewel embroidery.
