Textile Workshop (Animals)
Tuesday 11th February
2.30pm - 4pm - FULL

Upcycle scraps of old fleeces and jumpers into creative textile animals! Learn about hand sewing within an imaginative setting. All materials will be supplied however you are welcome to bring any old jumper or fleece with you to create a special memory animal of your own.

Helen Houston is a textile designer who has worked in the industry for over 25 years. She has worked with many fabric manufacturers around the world. Helen learned to knit before she could read or write; learning the knitting traditions of Shetland which have been passed down through the generations of her family. She is also accomplished at sewing and is currently helping stitch a Welcome Panel for The Great Tapestry of Scotland in freehand crewel embroidery. Helen loves to share her textile knowledge with children and help them develop their own skills and unleash their creativeness through the medium of textiles.
Benefits of sewing
- improves hand eye co-ordination
-Provides the fine motor skills required of medical surgeons to complete successful operations (and who wants an ugly scar!)
-As we need to move away from fast fashion being able to mend clothes is a skill for life. (turn up a hem, sew on a button.)
-Concentration on a textile task can help with mental wellbeing.
-Accomplishment and pride in being able to turn yarn and scraps of fabric into a creative item.
-Allows children to sew on their own Scout or Girl Guide badges giving a sense of achievement.

£14 per head.
