Bookbinding Workshops - for Teens and Adults
We are absolutely delighted to be welcoming Cass Barron back to the studio this summer to lead three different book binding workshops designed for Teens and Adults.
A great way to relax and spend quality time together as well as picking up a new skill which will get you hooked ! Hand-bound journal of dreams - for teens 19 July, 3-5pm (max 8 people) £32 Join Edinburgh-based Cass Barron to create a leather or vegan leather covered journal that you can use as a sketchbook, diary, notebook or make as a special gift. There'll be lots of opportunity to include decorative papers and pockets before binding your pages together with an eye-catching exposed stitch made up of different coloured threads. Once bound together we'll also look at adding a nifty fastening and some finishing touches that will ensure your book is one-of-a-kind, just like you! All materials will be provided but you are welcome to bring along any papers from your own collection that you would like to use in your books - artwork, old maps, wrapping paper, old book pages etc. work well. Following the workshop, you will receive access to a step-by-step video, giving you a reminder of the stitch, plus information on sourcing materials and recommended suppliers - a good resource should you want to make more books at home...bookbinding is an addictive craft, you've been warned! EVENING CLASSES Layered Cross Stitch Journal Workshop Wednesday 28 July, 7-9.30pm (max 10 participants) Join Edinburgh-based Bookbinder Cass Barron to create an eye-catching A6 leather or vegan leather journal with a mix of plain & patterned papers, all bound together with a colourful decorative exposed stitch. These 48 page books make for great sketchbooks, journals and notebooks – a fun personal project or a gift for someone special! All materials are included but you are welcome to bring along any papers from your own collection that you would like to use in your books - artwork, old maps, wrapping paper etc. work well. Refillable notebook workshop Wednesday 18 August (max 10 participants) 6.30-9.30pm Join Edinburgh-based Bookbinder Cass Barron to create an A6 refillable notebook, complete with handy pockets to help organise your note-taking. If you're a stationery lover, everyday sketcher, travel journaller, compulsive list maker or someone that carries around multiple notebooks - this workshop is for you! This hardback journal features a leather spine threaded with elastic that can house two booklets - meaning that when you have filled a booklet, you can simply remove it, make a new one, reload your book and away you go! This also means you can mix and match your notebooks depending on what you're doing each day. In the workshop Cass will cover how to construct the outer of your book, attach the spine and add pocket details to the inside, before showing you a nifty way to make hand-stitched notebooks to slot into your book - you'll leave the workshop with a beautiful book that will be a joy to use and the skills to keep refilling it for years to come! All materials are included but you are welcome to bring along any papers from your own collection that you would like to use in your books - artwork, old maps, wrapping paper etc. work well. Optional extras - if participants would like to purchase a bookbinding toolkit so they can make more booklets at home to use in their refillable book, this will cost £8. Payable on the day. For all workshops: Tea/Coffee /Juice will be provided as well as instructions to take away with you so that you can make more books at home. No previous bookbinding experience required.
