Have a go at relief carving or letter carving in stone. Using traditional tools, such as a dummy hammer and chisels, participants will have the opportunity to learn basic carving techniques to produce a design in a 10 x10cm limestone block.
The stone is yours to take away at the end of the session. Perfect for anyone with an interest in art, design, heritage crafts, mindfulness or learning traditional skills.
Suitable for anyone (age 12+) no experience necessary.
Stone, tools, and safety equipment will be provided. Please wear old clothes that you don't mind getting dusty and sturdy shoes which cover your toes and protect your feet.
About the Tutor: Douglas Stevens is a qualified conservation stonemason with a passion for traditional skills and materials. He trained with Historic Environment Scotland and has worked on numerous heritage sites across the UK.
Note, these sessions will be taking place outside and in the event of very bad weather it may not be possible to run them.
