Clay Creations - New 8 week block starts
Friday 28th April - Friday 16th June 3.30pm - 5pm Suitable for kids now in P3 - P7/S1
During this block, kids will work with earthenware clay to create a variety of pieces using different hand-building and wheel thrown techniques. These are projects which will take multiple weeks to allow for drying, firing and glazing.
Kids will learn how to slab build, sgraffito clay, join clay and add embellishments, colour their own glaze, create impressions in clay and throw a simple vessel form on the wheel. Kids will be rotated, to throw the pots they need on the pottery wheel.
Friday 28th April: Cabbage Leaf Bows Kids will create a bowl using cabbage leaf impressions. Kids will roll out their slab of clay, imprint the leaves then slump into a bowl for drying.
Fri 5th May: Clay House Kids will be asked to use their imagination to draw and then model an imaginary/magical house in clay. Kids will roll and cut out clay to make slabs before being shown how to construct their house.
Fri 12th May: Adding Surface details and carving clay Kids will carve their clay house, to add windows and other details to their houses.
Fri 19th May: Painting and finishing In this week, kids will paint their fired cabbage bowls using a watercolour technique with glaze paints and then finish adding surface detail to their house.
Fri 26th May:Clay additions Kids will continue to finish the surface design of their clay house and make clay additions to support the story of their course such as figures/animals.
Fri 2nd June: Adding embellishments to thrown pots Kids will use the pots they've thrown on the wheel to turn into an animal plant pot and will decorate to create surface textures.
Fri 9th June: Tile and Coloured Slip Kids will roll out a clay tile and will be shown how to make coloured clay slipto add surface decoration to their tile.
Fri 16th June:Painting and finishing Kids will use this week to paint and glaze the remaining fired pieces.
